5 Tips for correctly storing your caravan
Stables of
Your caravan
Winter is quietly approaching so there are many people who put their caravans in storage for a while to survive the winter properly. This way they protect their caravan to be able to travel with it again next year. We ourselves are also such people and we found out that it is not only putting your caravan in the garage that is important, but you also have to pay attention to a number of things and we will discuss them with you here. Good luck with these 5 tips for storing your caravan!
1 Do not apply handbrake
The most common mistake made when storing your caravan is putting on the handbrake. This one may actually be up for a maximum of a month, which is actually quite long. Because if you leave this on longer, it can get stuck due to rust, among other things (even if it’s inside). So preferably secure the caravan in some other way. You can do this by placing logs against the wheels, for example. Is the handbrake stuck anyway? If so, anti-rust or a can of lubricating oil can help you… though you have to be careful with this that you don’t use too much.
2 All the water out
Get all the water out of the pipes and tank, as this can get very dirty if you don’t do this. Is your caravan in a place where it can freeze? Then it is not only recommended but also just very much needed! Because if this water freezes in the pipes then after the winter you can already start replacing the pipes. And of course you don’t want that either!

3 Take out the battery
Is your caravan in a place that could freeze? Then it is recommended to also take out the battery and put it inside in a warm place. A battery that has to endure freezing temperatures and is not used loses a lot of its power and life. And is also likely to be completely flat when you want to use it again.
4 Pump your tires a bit harder
When storing your caravan, it is also recommended that you inflate your tires a little harder than you would normally inflate them. This will prevent the caravan’s tires from getting a flat spot due to the long standstill. It is recommended that they be set 0.5 to 2.0 bar harder. You can check the correct tire pressure for your caravan here.
5 Opening up a few things
There are a few things it’s best to open to avoid unpleasant odors. For example, it’s best to leave some windows ajar. If you have a fly window you can open it reasonably. However, when this is not the case, it is best not to open them too far, to avoid pests. Also, open the door of your refrigerator to prevent mold. And when you have a bathroom it is also best to open this door.
What do you do when storing your caravan?
Of course, there are a lot of other tips you can apply when storing your caravan. For example, you can treat your caravan with talcum powder or petroleum jelly but that’s if you like to give your caravan extra attention. Our 5 tips are rather essential.
