5 things you shouldn't save on when you go on vacation

Don't save

on vacation

Saving money is always fun while traveling. Only this should not harm your health or the experience of the trip. That’s why we made a list of 5 things you shouldn’t save on when you go on vacation. Because, of course, traveling should be fun in the first place!

1 Sunscreen

Although you may not always need sunscreen in Belgium or the Netherlands, you definitely do need it abroad! Because often the UV radiation is much higher. Without sunscreen, not only do you run the risk of burning, but the risk of skin cancer also increases. Going for the cheapest and most unknown product is usually not a good idea. For example, we once bought sunscreen for 4 euros and have never been as sunburned as we were then. We also do not recommend house brands, the so called “white products” when it comes to sunscreen. Choose a well-known brand and preferably with factor 50. So a little more expensive, but well worth the investment for your skin. So you definitely shouldn’t skimp on sunscreen on vacation.

2 Suitcase

Another mistake we made in the past is spending little money on a good travel case. For example, we bought a very cheap suitcase to travel through Mexico, with the result that after two flights this suitcase was completely broken and we still had to buy a new one. So investing in a good suitcase before you leave on vacation is very important!

3 Excursions

Many people we know on vacation sometimes save on the trips they take. And that’s a shame. Especially if you’re taking a long trip to countries like South Africa or America. Because the chances of coming here only once in a lifetime are extremely high. We too saved on some excursions in the past and we still complain about that sometimes now. We tend to save on accommodation and food rather than experiences.v An experience or trip colors your vacation, so why would you want to skimp on that? Searching for the cheapest solution, of course we do!

4 Vaccinations and medications

We can’t repeat and say it enough but on your vaccinations and other medications such as pills for malaria, for example, you should not save! Putting your own health at risk to save a few bucks is just not worth it. Therefore, always visit your family doctor or the Tropical Institute. All other providers of this medication that claim to be cheaper are best avoided. After all, you want to be sure that the medication works when you would need it.

5 The right equipment

Another thing you absolutely must not skimp on before going on vacation is the right equipment.v For example, buy a good pair of sunglasses that protect your eyes enough and fit your face perfectly. Or the right hiking boots that won’t be broken after 200 km. And so there are a lot of things. Investing in good quality pays its own way over the years. We didn’t always do this and the things we saved on at first ended up costing us a lot more!
