Today we discuss 6 helpful tips for sleeping soundly on an airplane. Sleeping on an airplane is not always easy, but sometimes really necessary if you are traveling for a long time. Especially on a long flight. We ourselves sometimes have problems with this and then these tips certainly come in handy. We hope they help you just as much!
1 Wear comfortable clothing
A logical tip perhaps, but we still see people (especially older people) dressing fancy to take a plane. This is really not necessary! And also not convenient on a long trip of more than 5 hours. We usually just wear loose pants or jogging pants and a sweater. Certainly no warm clothing. Sleeping succeeds much better in comfortable clothing!
2 Don't eat much
Try not to eat too much before your flight. In this way, you will already be able to sleep much better. Trying to sleep with a full stomach is much harder. We made this mistake a few times ourselves and ate a hearty meal right before we got on the plane. Consequently, sleeping with bloating did not work. It’s best to eat a quick piece of fruit a good time before you take off or just before you take off to satisfy hunger. And if you still get extremely hungry, you can always order something to eat on the plane.
3 Your seat
Your seat can also play an important role in whether or not you can sleep. If you are going on a long flight, we recommend that you choose your seat yourself. Because at the window you simply sleep better. Just because no one has to pass by you to take something out of their luggage or to go to the toilet. Also be careful not to sit too close to the wings, as there can be more noise in older aircraft.
4 Travel pillows
Travel pillows don’t have to cost a lot of money. Don’t hesitate to buy this, because it just really helps you sleep better. You also won’t have neck pain afterwards thanks to such a pillow. Nowadays there are also pillows that you can inflate and then let go again so that they do not take up much space in your luggage. Also, bringing a blanket can always be handy to make it extra cozy.
5 Eye patches and ear plugs
Another good and logical tip for sleeping soundly on an airplane is to simply shut yourself off completely from the outside world. This can be done with eye patches and ear plugs, and these don’t have to cost a lot of money either. Some people use soft music as a way of shutting themselves off from all other sounds. With us, this works less. We choose eye patches and ear plugs.
6 A sleeping pill
You can also always buy a sleeping pill and take it at the start of the flight. Just be careful that you are familiar with this and take the right dose. This tip should be the absolute last step! Because of course this is not really healthy. Always avoid alcohol and caffeine as these do not help with sleep!
