1. Zakynthos
Zakynthos was love at first sight. We went there for the first time after the lockdown period and the freedom did us good! It is best to rent a car here to explore the entire island, as it is relatively small. In addition to world-famous hotspots like Shipwreck Beach, you can also spend time here in peace on undiscovered beaches. On this island you can easily fill a week’s worth of activities.
2. Lake Garda Italy
Admittedly, Italy in itself is a vacation destination that always manages to charm us. Think city trips to Venice, Milan or Rome but also the Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre. Despite each of these being wonderful destinations, we feel a strong love for Lake Garda. Italy’s largest lake offers the best of this country: stunning views, mountain scenery, water activities, picturesque villages and delicious food. La dolce vita.
3. Tenerife
Very popular destination with Belgians and far beyond as an all-inclusive vacation, but Tenerife has more to offer than just sunbathing, sipping cocktails and the hotel buffet. You can make wonderful road trips or visit national park the Teide, for example. By the way, did you know that you can also find black sand beaches here? In short, Tenerife is always good as a summer destination.
4. Malta
A tiny island in the Mediterranean Sea but what a discovery! Malta actually has several islands of which 3 can be visited: Malta, Gozo and Comino. Both Malta and Gozo we can strongly recommend. You get lost there through the beautiful streets that seem straight out of a movie. The typical houses are an attraction in themselves. And the best part? You can explore everything on foot in the cities because they are so small.
5. Albania
Not yet well known but a rapidly emerging destination is Albania. Think diverse landscapes, pristine sandy beaches, clear blue sea and high mountain peaks. What makes a vacation here extra nice is the avoidance of mass tourism. And the people are very hospitable. A wonderful destination well worth considering.
6. Sicily
The dreamy Italian island of Sicily captures the imagination. The colorful port cities, bright blue waters and hot temperatures make it the ideal summer vacation. Gastronomically, it is also a hit. Fresh fish, pasta and, of course, gelato! In addition, you can take the most beautiful pictures of the picturesque landscape here. For couples, a top romantic destination.
7. Crete
The ideal family vacation? Without a doubt, Crete! Besides lots of beach and swimming fun, you will also enjoy culture, city visits and history on this Greek island. There is something for everyone. You can perfectly split up for a while or do something different every day. Both for young and slightly older. In addition, you are almost 100% assured of radiant weather during the summer months.
8. Minorca
Minorca was once the first trip we took as a couple. This Spanish island is less known than its neighbors Mallorca and Ibiza but is at least as beautiful. Bright blue and clear waters, high cliffs and a blissfully unhurried atmosphere. Tourism is present here but to a lesser extent than in other Spanish islands. Besides great sunbathing, snorkeling and lots of water fun, you can also visit some atmospheric towns where you can find bustling markets at night. Or you can have a romantic dinner by the water.
9. Bulgaria
Budget-friendly travelers can go to Bulgaria for sun, sea and beach. Sunny Beach is very well known and mostly loved by young budget travelers and partygoers, but did you know that in addition to Sunny Beach, World Heritage UNESCO can also be found in Nessebar? There are also several quieter resorts to be found, making a summer vacation with the whole family also perfectly possible in Bulgaria.
