What to do in Jordan?
What to do in
This country is without a doubt one of the most beautiful countries we have been to. And that is mainly because of the beautiful nature, history and hospitality of the people. Find out what to do in Jordan. And dream away of this beautiful country!
The most famous place in Jordan is undoubtedly world wonder Petra. Of course you must visit this magical place when visiting this country. The archaeological site is so impressive. In fact, it is so big that you need several days to see everything. We recommend two to three days. Attention! There is a lot of hiking on the site itself. So prepare for this with good hiking boots. Petra is best visited by purchasing a Jordan Pass which also includes your visa for this country.
2 Dead Sea
Another attraction that you should definitely not miss in Jordan is undoubtedly the Dead Sea. In the Dead Sea, which is actually a lake, there is so much salt that you can float in it. In many places you have to pay to go into the Dead Sea. But if you drive just past the entrance to Wadi al Mujib you will come across the most beautiful part of the Dead Sea on the right where you can float in it for free. By the way, the Dead Sea is the lowest place on the mainland in the world.
3 Ma’in Hot springs
A lesser known place but something you should definitely have seen is the Ma’in Hot springs. In addition to beautiful waterfalls, you have hot springs where you can relax. It is a very beautiful and unique place, especially since you won’t encounter many tourists here compared to other hot springs in the world. At these waterfalls you also have a beautiful and unique hotel where you can stay in an atmospheric setting. If you stay in hotel you can go to thehot springs for free and also after the opening hours. This hotel is definitely in our top 5 most unique hotels in the world. At this hotel you are also a 20-minute drive from the Dead Sea.
4 Wadi Mujib
Wadi Mujib is a nature reserve where you can hike between the gorge and through a river. A hike through this river is a unique experience that you cannot do in many other countries. Unfortunately, Wadi Mujib does close during the winter months to protect the fauna and flora. But also because when it rains it can be fairly dangerous to trek through this gorge. This hike is something you should definitely do in Jordan during the summer. Unfortunately, access to this nature reserve is not currently included in the Jordan Pass.
5 Wadi Rum
Spending the night in Wadi Rum should be on everyone’s bucket list. In this valley where you can only find desert and rocks, it seems like you have landed on another planet. In addition, you can see beautiful starry skies during the night due to the little light pollution. You can stay in one of the many tented camps or in one of the beautiful luxury hotels, including the Ufo Bubble Luxury Hotel. When visiting one of the hotels, first drive to the hotel parking lot. And then a jeep will take you to your hotel.
Jerash is a remnant of the Romans. According to various sources, the city is said to be one of the largest and best-preserved Roman archaeological sites in the world. When traveling to Jordan, this place is unfortunately often skipped. And if you’re only coming to Jordan for a week, this is understandable because you do have to make a detour for this. But do you have a 10-day schedule? If so, this site absolutely belongs on the “what to do in Jordan” schedule.
7 Mount Nebo
Mount Nebo is the mountain from which Moses is said to have seen the promised land. So you can imagine how beautiful the view from the top of Mount Nebo is. It is best to visit this mountain if you are traveling from Amman to the Dead Sea or in the opposite direction. Along the way you will come across many beautiful places where you will want to stop.
Jordan’s coastline, at 29 kilometers, is not particularly large. But that doesn’t make the town of Aqaba any less fun. Here you can do some water sports on the Red Sea and enjoy the sun and the beach. Therefore, you can find some resorts here where you can spend a nice vacation. A visit to the souks in Aqaba are definitely worthwhile.
We do not like the crowds that cities like Amman bring. And on a one-week stay, we don’t think Amman is worth visiting either. But if you have a little more time then this one should be on your list of things to do in Jordan. For example, in Amman you have the impressive amphitheater, some beautiful mosques, Rainbowstreet and some other nice spots. Be aware, however, that this city is slightly busier than other cities in Jordan. So keep this in mind if you are traveling by car.
10 Wadi Bin Hammad
Wadi Bin Hammad, like Wadi Mujib, is a gorge with a river in it where you can take a hike. Again, this walk through this nature reserve will leave a certain impression. And this Wadi Bin Hammad may not be as big as Wadi Mujib, but that doesn’t make this gorge any less beautiful or impressive. In addition, tourism in this gorge is much less than in its competitor. Which, of course, is also fun. And especially if you want to take some great photos.
